Information about your current task is fed to you through a journal, but a neat touch is pushing a key to have it pop up in front of you like a book rather than having to open a menu. Monstrum is set in a derelict ship and you wake up in a cabin not knowing where you are or why you’re there and it’s apparent that your mission is to escape. It would be harsh to pass such judgement on an alpha however and with Junkfish pushing the game back to January 2015, perhaps some of my concerns will be addressed. Having spent some time with the alpha build we have access to early impressions leave me feeling disappointed. It’s Bioshock-esque atmosphere, eerie sound work and horror of the survival variety make it seem a compelling package. At first glance, there’s a lot to look forward to with Monstrum.
